Short Story Writing Competition in memory of Manto

Arahant, the literary club, organised a short-story writing competition on 23rd August 2012 in memory of the great Urdu writer Sa'adat Hasan Manto (1912-1955) as part of a series of events it intends to organise to celebrate his birth centenary. Students took part in it in large numbers. The results will be declared soon.

Participation in CLAVA FIESTA of the National Literary Club of Aligarh Muslim University

Arahant, the literary club and Drishtikon, the Debating Society of Gautam Buddha University participated in the National Literary festival ‘Clava Fiesta’, organised by Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The event was held on 15th and 16th February, 2012. This two day long colorful event comprised many literary events where participants, students, academicians, faculty members, teachers and intellectuals gatheredand celebrated the 50 years of the formation of literary activities in the Aligarh Muslim University. The National Literary Festival “Clava Fiesta”comprised of the following events –

(i)                 Panel Discussion,
(ii)               Book Fair,
(iii)             Elocution,
(iv)             Master Quiz,
(v)               Essay Writing Competition and
(vi)             Creative Writing Competition.

Gautam Buddha University fetched five awards in the event and the details are as follows:

1. Creative Writing (English) – Ms. Neelam Singhal – Third prize
2. Creative Writing (Hindi) – Ms. Jaya Nayak – Third prize
3. Elocution (English) – Ms. Apeksha Nimbadia – Second prize
4. Elocution (Hindi) – Mr. Waris Nawaz Khan – Second prize
5. Elocution (Urdu) – Ms. Himanshi Sharma – Judge’s prize

The theme of the festival was ‘media and its role in secularism’. Ms. Priyanka Chhabria, MA Development Studies student represented the Gautam Buddha University in the panel discussion with the theme ‘Freedom of Speech and responsibility in media’.

Short Story Competition in commemoration of the Birth Centenary of Sa'adat Hasan Manto

Three Stories one Big Competition, presenting Manto Month at The Lucknow Book Club to commemorate Saadat Hasan Manto's centenary this May, The Lucknow Book Club is organizing a month long series of competitions inspired by 3 of Manto's most iconic stories. To participate in the categories of short story, poetry, short-film, art, photography and script writing and to know more, read the steps below-

Step 1: Choose any one of these three stories written by Saadat Hasan Manto, (you may read them Hindi, English, Urdu) (a) Toba Tek Singh (b) Khol Do (c) Buu

Step 2: Based on/inspired by ANY ONE of the above stories you may provide entries for either one or more of categories in the competition by (a) Writing a short story within 1000 words, (b) Photograph, (c) Art/painting, (d) Short-film (upto 10 min.), (e) Submitting a poem

Step 3: Send in your entries/queries to lbc.lucknow@gmail.com

RULES:

For those of you who know and revere Manto as we at The Lucknow Book Club do, you will agree that with Manto, there are no rules. But for the sake of our judges, we would like to keep just three-
(a) Your entries MUST be inspired by either ONE of the three stories specified
(b) You are allowed only ONE entry per categoy
(c) Last date for submission is 30th May, medium may be English, Hindi, Urdu.
